In January 2017, AMAR began operating a Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) at the Esyan Camp in Northern Iraq. The PHCC provides essential healthcare services to thousands of people displaced by violence at the hands of the Islamic State (IS).

Typically, the AMAR Esyan PHCC receives over 3800 visits per month and employs 25 staff members, including physicians, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists. All staff members are Iraqi medical workers and volunteers.

AMAR Esyan PHCC provides quality medical care to Esyan Camp’s current 15,000 residents. The camp is located in Iraq’s Nineveh province. In 2014, IS militants violently overtook much of Nineveh province, notably the cities of Mosul and Sinjar. Militants targeted the Yazidis, an ethno-religious minority considered heretical by Islamist extremists. IS perpetrated a horrible genocide on the Yazidis, killing tens of thousands and kidnapping thousands to be used as child soldiers and sex slaves. Millions of survivors fled to nearby cities and camps, including Esyan Camp, where the AMAR PHCC serves their ongoing medical needs.

AMAR Esyan PHCC medical staff provide quality health care to displaced families. Of the 3800 monthly visits, the majority (58%) were for various diseases, with respiratory diseases most prominent. The PHCC also offers maternity care, pediatric services, and dental services.

AMAR works hard to provide quality medical care while maintaining low operating costs. The AMAR Esyan PHCC cost per visit averages $3.40 USD. Medical care is provided free of charge to camp residents.

We rely on generous donors to support all operating costs. Without international donors, AMAR cannot operate at Esyan Camp. Please consider making a financial contribution to help AMAR maintain its operations.

Any amount will help tremendously. AMAR is a registered 501(c)(3) organization in the United States. All contributions are tax-deductible in the United States to the extent provided by law.

Thank you for supporting displaced Iraqis living in the most desperate situations. Your contribution will help the Esyan clinic continue operations. This is only possible because of the kindness and compassion of people like you.
