Urgent Call to Action: Support Two AMAR Health Clinics Threatened with Closure

In 2014, the Yazidis, a persecuted ethno-religious minority living in Iraq, experienced a terrible genocide at the hands of the Islamic State. Survivors fled to camps for internally displaced persons (IDP camps) in Iraq. They are among the world’s most vulnerable people, as they lack adequate access to basic resources-water, sanitation, hygiene, and health care services. The camps are overcrowded, and an outbreak of Covid would devastate the residents.

AMAR has supported the Yazidi population since before the genocide. AMAR operates primary healthcare clinics in two camps: Khanke and Esyan. Both camps provide healthcare for up to 60,000 internally displaced Yazidis.  Additionally, AMAR employs hundreds of displaced Yazidis at the health clinics, including many young women who were kidnapped and repeatedly sexually assaulted by IS fighters during the genocide. Through their positions at the clinics, these young women learn skills and find purpose in serving others.

Thousands of people rely on this care.

Due to Covid, AMAR has lost major sources of funding, and the two clinics face threat of closure within the next month, depriving camp residents of access to health care and required personal protective equipment. See this video from Baroness Emma Nicholson and senior AMAR leaders who explain the desperate situation.

URGENT CALL TO ACTION – Please consider making a financial contribution to help AMAR maintain its operations at the camps. Two ways you can help:

  • Make a one-time donation to help AMAR achieve our short term goal of $37,500 USD before August 31, which will keep the clinics open for one month. Donate here or visit www.utahfriendsofamar.org/ and click the Donate button to contribute.
  • Schedule a recurring contribution to help AMAR achieve its long-term goal of $450,000 USD, which will keep both clinics open for an entire year. Visit here and establish a payment plan by clicking the “Recurs” tab.
  • Mail a check please mail to:

Any amount will help tremendously. AMAR is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions are tax deductible in the United States to the extent provided by law.

Thank you for supporting displaced Yazidis living in the most desperate situations. Your contribution will help the clinics continue operations. This is only possible because of the kindness and compassion of people like you.

Gratefully,

Baroness Emma Nicholson of Winterbourne
